Alexander Misharin holds a meeting with Valery Shantsev

On April 7, 2017, Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways, General Director of High-Speed Rail Lines, held a business meeting with the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev.

Alexander Misharin said that according to the preliminary scheme, two HSR stations would be built at the airport and near the Moscow railway station in Nizhny Novgorod. In addition, one station will be built in the cities of Dzerzhinsk, Kstov, Niva and Dzerzhinsk. Travel time from Nizhny Novgorod to the capital may be about 1.5 hours.

"Russian Railways has almost completed the organizational and legal work on the construction of high-speed rail lines in the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod section," Alexander Misharin said. "The Nizhny Novgorod region is the largest industrial region that is located on the main transit route" China-Russia-Europe. It would be strange if the region were not chosen to implement the project."

The head of the region, Valery Shantsev, agreed on the need for a high-speed rail line: "The prospects are large in every respect. Investments will give a serious increase to the tax base; we will significantly increase the budget only at the expense of this project. The effect connected with mobility of the population, with the development of the living space that will be located in the corridor of the highway, will be huge," Shantsev said.
