Siemens acknowledges its interest in Moscow–Kazan HSR project

Dietrich Moeller, President of Siemens Russia and Vice President of Siemens AG told the media that Siemens seeks to join Moscow-Kazan HSR project. “It's an interesting project for us. Specifically, we seek to supply locally-produced trains in partnership with Sinara”. And, of course, to participate in design and automation systems”, he said. “We are yet at the very start of the project, but by all means it is interesting for Siemens. I do not exclude that we may join the project as the consortium's contractor”, he added. Russian Railways have earlier received a bid from a Russian-Chinese consortium for design of Russia's first high-speed railway from Moscow to Kazan. European companies wish to cooperate with the consortium, informed a source close to Russian Railways. Siemens has earlier expressed an interest in the HSR design tender. On March 16, Russian Railways announced a tender to select a designer with the initial price of RUB20.79 bn. The preferred bidder will be named on April 29. Moscow-Kazan line will be about 770 km long with 15 stops, including Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary and Kazan. Travel time from Moscow to Kazan will be 3.5 hours: 1 hour from Nizhny Novgorod to Cheboksary, and 1.5 hour to Kazan. The estimated annual passenger flow in the initial years of service is 10.5 mn people.
